Howdy!

My right-side front wheel bearing is heading for retirement, probably later this week.

Question: Should I change both front bearings? Car is almost 7 years old, I'm not the first owner, but I suspect these are the originals... A friend of mine will be changing it as I don't have the tools to do this.

I'm asking 'cause he said that it wasn't necessary, and if the second one needs changing, it would cost the same anyways... better wait and see...

Opinions?

Thanks!

I would agree. I had to replace a front bearing almost two years ago, and the other side hasn't had a problem. Chances are you'd be paying for nothing.

Well I replaced both struts on mine, so I figured might as well as go ahead and change em!

Things like this are almost always best done as a pair. I replaced both of my bearings when I pretty much overhauled my car. It made a world of difference in the car, and it feels new now. Anyway, good luck if your doing it yourself and if you live in a place with salty winters. Mine disintegrated when I took them out.

I'll probably have him change juste the faulty one for now, and see what it feels like afterwards. There is no real economic reason to do both right now, and I won't even be without a car during the repairs, as my friend lends me one of his during that time...

I'm in Quebec, I guess we could call that the calcium paradise... I suppose it will be a nasty job to do, and that's mostly why I'm not doing it myself..

This winter has been really hard on my car, I mean really hard... The bearing is just the beginning... paint chips came off everywhere... damn trucks... I guess this is the year I decide whether I keep the 'stique or not.. 7 years and 150,000 km (around90,000 miles).....

Thanks for the advice guys!
