I have a problem. Every time I put the ac on in my car, it starts idling rough and there is smoke coming out from around the air compressor. Do I need to get a new compressor or is it something else that causes this?
Thanks alot.

There is a TSB for "idles rough when A/C is on". If your compressor is smoking I wouldnt turn it on.

It may be the AC clutch. I assume you still get cold air?

What ruins a number of clutches on A/C compressors is the relay that drives it. The contacts start to go bad and they don't get the current they need to fully engage. Mine started to do something like this last summer so I swapped out the relay. I've had previous cars with this problem. But the smoke may be from oil leaking on to the clutch - oil from a leaking shaft seal.

Yeah it may be that. I guess I need to go get it checked out. Until then I think I'll leave my air off.
