Hi,
I have decided to try if I can live with just a high quality deck instead of the deck amp-sub-combo I had.
Here are the requirements.
1. Very good sound quality. 2. Detachable face. 3. Understated look, preferably black. 4. Mp3 capability 5. 3 pre-outs. 6. Great tuner. 7. Most power possible (I will need it all to power my Polk DB 5.25 inchers in the front...)
8.600$ or less (negotiable if there is a great unit that comes along...)
TIA

Get an alpine cd player. You will not regret it. The quality compared to my old aiwa is INCREDIBLE. If you have 600 to spend, you can get a very nice one. I spent 350 and it was the best 350 I ever spent. Mine plays mp3 and wma files.
Edit: They are the most powerful decks out there, for even 400 dollars you can get 60 watts per channel and 6 volt pre outs.

Panasonic MXE CQ-C9800U
A deck that puts out a true 60x4 rms (Tripath Class T internal amp) plus all of the other features you listed. The rear channels have even got enough power to run a small sub. You should be able to get one for $400 or less.

Personally I'd go with anything alpine of pioneer. Etronics has some pretty good deals, although you don't get a manufactors warranty since they're not an authorized dealer.

Thats a pretty deck, but if you go with the alpine you can get much more than what this deck has to offer. The power is about the same, and this one is less showy, and more professional looking. Alpine CDA-9831 same price

You could go with this one I go the older model x569 and I love it, the buttons can be green or red, and the green matches great with the stock illumination. Its black too and has everthing you wanted, but so do most decks about $200

If you're losing the amp and want to have your polks (and maybe your sub, if you don't want to sell it, and depending on its size) sound good, I would go with colin's recommendation of the Panasonic. It may not be Alpine or Pioneer, which is what is typically recommended here, but it has the built-in power of an external amp. I think you'll be able to tell if you move from an amp to just an aftermarket HU with only 22Wx4 or so.

The power of the panasonic is FAR greater. The panasonic has 60watts RMS x 4 not 60 watts peak (18rms). The panasonics rear channels are also bridgeable if you wanted to run a small sub.

Yes, the new Panasonic deck uses Tripath Class T chips for amplification. It's the same technology as the Blaupunkt Class T amps (high power, tiny size, no heat) which were recently discontinued appearantly due to a licensing agreement expiring with Tripath.
If you can wait a year, I think we'll see many more head units available with this sort of built-in power of 50+ watts per channel of rms output. I'm guessing a true 100x4 rms head unit isn't too far off.

Thanks for the good options provided.
I would go for the panasonic in a heartbeat, except for the crappy tuner (I am used to 9.3 dBf with my former Alpine, this has a very ordinary 13.2dBf sensitivity). Everything else looks great, good S/N for the CD, 2 year warranty, not butt ugly.
Yes, it seems odd, but I do listen to alot of radio...
I imagine I have to run a cable straight to the battery with that kind of power? I do have a 4 gauge wire going to the trunk, but this might be overkill, hey...
Tj47892, its funny you recommended that model, cause I was looking at either that one (its black...) or the sony

Silver, but better tuner.
BTW, I had not seen the panasonic was 60watt RMS. Whoa!
