I picked up peel and seal for my install project (currently a disaster-in-progress), but realized when I picked it up off the shelf that it has a really foul asphalty odor. I know a lot of people have used this stuff (or similar) in their doors, and I wanted to know if it creates a persistent smell inside the car. I'd rather deal with not having the tightest sounds from my door speakers if it means escaping a headache from the asphalt smell of the peel and seal.

On a related note, assuming it doesn't have an overwhelming smell after initial installation, where should I be putting it? Do I have to peel back the foamy liner thing attached to the door, and will that stick back to the black gooey stuff if I take it off? Am I going to need to put on more of the black gooey stuff, and if so, what on earth is it?

3M trim adhesive works great to re-attach the foam. you can get it at most auto store like Kragen, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc.

it doesnt smell at all. inside the car, i dont notice a thing, and even when the door panel was off, i didnt even notice it. (or maybe i was high on the fumes ).

just put it on the bare metal, behind the foam. there is also another well behind the 1st thing of bare metal, where the crash bar is. you can put some there too.
you need to peel the foam off carefully. it goes back on fine, you dont really even need adhesive, the tar stuff will stick back on to it.
one note: when you put it (peel and seal) on, just make sure you dont cover the holes that the door panel spikes go into. i think there are like 2 holes that shouldnt be covered, you'll see when you put it on.
i learned that the hard way ("why the hell wont this damn door panel go back on?!?!" )
