hey guys, well...as luck would have it..i have been handed a problem right after working on the csvt.

i did a minor install of my system...and right after i finished, i turned on the car and now the SRS light stays on. i messed around down in the drivers side footwell when i was running the power wire, so i could have messed up a wire somewhere.

sooo...if anybody has any knowledge about the airbag system...could you be so kind as to point me in the direction of some possible solutions? TIA.

Air bag light "always on" indicates you have disconnected power to air bag diagnostic monitor.

Fuses 30 & 36 interior fuse panel should be first things to check.

Monitor located under radio on floor at front of console. I'd have to check where it picks up power in fuse panel area, but suggest you also check that connectors there are firmly in place (i.e. locking tabs holding connectors together have properly snapped in place). Hopefully you didn't cut supply line.

Puchasing interface harness with connectors that mate new HU with existing OEM HU/SPKR connectors usually the preferred/easiest installation method, IMO. Unless, of course, if your new HU requires a zillion amps from battery.

as far as the wiring harness....i did that a long time ago for the HU with the adapter.

i was only doing the amp wiring yesterday after this happened.

well...i checked fuse 30 and its fine...however there is not a place for a #36 fuse. it is an empty hole. could it be another one?

also, do you happen to know the colors of the wires that I should be looking for to check if they came undone?

I'm working from '97 wiring manual and '98 service cd it's possible changes made for '99-'00 models. Perhaps a member with the '99-'00 manual could advise us in this area.

For '98 fuse 30 feeds an OG/GN wire and Fuse 36 a VT/OG wire to the airbag monitor. Wires are a straight run from connectors at fuse panel to connector at monitor; no intermediate connectors.
With the fuse panel flipped down there are two columns of connectors to the right of column of relays. In the right column the 10 pin connector at the bottom should have the OG/GN wire and the VT/OG wire should be in the 4 pin connector above that.

Are you original owner?
If not, I think I'd put 10 amp fuse in position 30 as a test. Functions fed by fuse 30 in '98; power antenna control, instrument gauge module, gearshift lever unit (atx only) and airbag monitor. [Quite plausible, with minor revisions, that this fuse not required in '00 SVT].

BTW, were you just running wire for amp thru' firewall or did you tap into a circuit at fuse panel?
