Maybe I've had a little too much time on my hands today, given the recent holiday.
So I was reading up on the Formula Ford Zetec Championship 2004
rule book and started running across the name of the people that actually build alot of the stuff for these cars, which is
Van Diemen. One of things they sell for this series, is the
4 or 5 speed Hewland LD 200. At their site, I was able to get a price of the 4 speed transmission used in these cars as well as see several different views of it. Price is around $5000.
Anyway, here comes the part where I have to much time on my hands...
This tranny is so small, combined with the Zetec, that it could easily fit in the rear seat/trunk area. Making it a mid-engine rear drive set-up. Of course all this would call for a solid frame to be built and all that techy stuff that tends to make things like this out of reach for most of us.

Oh well... it was fun thinking about it.
