Alas, that second job only lasted about six months, and I've been unemployed since then. I guess, when another Space Shuttle blows up, killing everyone aboard, you'll know that I have finally found another job.

As much as I need a job, I think I will turn down any offers of employment as an astronaut

This past week, after a long period of unemployment, amid various scraps of work here and there, and a year spent in a training program to prepare me for a whole new career in a whole new profession, I finally started my first real job since I last posted in this thread.

So today, my wife called this news story to my attention:  http://tinyurl.com/pap6v

It seems there's only been one space shuttle flight since the Columbia mishap, and they are getting ready to launch another on 01 July 2006, amid a great deal of concern that it might not be in safe condition to fly.

9/11/2001 - I had to go to the city to do some work for one of out contracts. I decided I would sleep late and get some extra rest, and blame it on traffic. I get a call from a friend asking me where i was at and if i was headed to the city yet. I said no i slept late and he told me to turn on the tv.

If i didn't do that I would have been in traffic, on the west side highway, when the planes were crashing.

yikes

I actually had a strange one a while back. I have been online buddies with this gal for a few years now. She asked me to look over her resume she was about to send out. So I did, turns out she went to high school with one of my cousins and her best friend was my cousin's girlfriend at the time.

This is an awesome thread!

Back when I was in elementary school in second grade, I had a girl in the class that had the excact same birthday as me(May 26, 1987.) One day we had a book convention, where we dressed up as our favorite book's character. So I dressed up as Aladdin. Went to school, next thing I know I'm sitting across from my Princess Jasmine, which was the same girl that had the same birthday as I.

To bad I have no idea where she is now. She moved after third grade.

Although probably not the weirdest, I encountered an eye popping coincidence a few days ago that really made me wonder...

Earlier that day I looked up the definition of Stockholm Syndrome since a couple bands I listen to have songs of the same name. I always had an urge to know the defintion, but for some reason took action that day. Anyway, that night I'm watching an episode of Futurama that I had never seen before and Stockholm Syndrome is referenced by Fry when he is taken hostage by a robot. Thus, my earlier definition look-up allowed me to understand the Stockholm Syndrome reference in the show. What's creepier is I've never encountered a reference to SS (aside from the songs) prior to that night.

Two of my aunts on my mom's side of the family are married.

One married a guy with the last name "Long"

The other married a guy with the last name "Short"

Definitely and odd coincidence.

I have had the "look up a word and then see it all over the place (TV, magazines, internet)" happen quite a few times. I think part of it is you just pass the word off before you know the defenition.

LOL that's funny.

My old boss married a guy who was in the Air Force, then later, her sister married that guy's brother, who was ALSO in the Air Force. The first couple moved to Fort Worth, Texas when he got out and went to work for the post office, and the second brother got stationed at the former Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, Tx and that's where I met them all, with MY hubby, who was in the Air Force, got out, worked for the post office, and is now Air Force again.

Back when I was about 14 I was at a park with my Aunt, Uncle and 7 year old sister. My Aunt had previously promised my sister to get popsicles before she took us home. Well, on the way home, we stopped at Blockbuster and it started getting really bad out (hail etc). There had already been a tornado warning but living in Binghamton, NY no one thought it would happen. Well, my Uncle said we should get right home since it was really bad out. My sister started crying that she wanted popsicles so my Aunt made my Uncle stop at the store. While we were in there, a tornado passed across the road at about 3 miles up the road. This also happened to be the point we would've been at if we hadn't stopped.... To this day I still wonder what if....
