I'm thinking of routing my intake in similar fashion to GMK and Titan (See NECO boards). Those guys have a pretty good deal going, but I'd like to go even cheaper. I've found some sources for 3" stainless or aluminum pipe, but that still puts me in the $75 range just for pipe and connectors. I'm also thinking "plastics" for heat-soak avoidance.
1. CPVC--I've heard PVC is bad, but CPVC is rated to 300 degrees F. Any fume issues with it?
2. ABS--can it take the heat?
3. PC-ABS--Where do you get this stuff?
4. Shop-Vac hose--Yes, I know it has internal ridges, but they are of uniform height. I don't know how large a hose is available, but if the hose were of, say 3.5" ID, the ridges would be covered by the boundary airflow, and the non-turbulent core airflow would be identical to that in a 3" smooth pipe. (That's my armchair theory, anyway.) Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

Have you ever thought of getting a piece of stainless exhaust, and having the one end pulled (stretched) out? I know muffler shops can make the one end larger, and they'll prolly give you a cheap price for a short piece of stainless. Then you can just put on the pipes for the vacuum tubing. Just a thought.

The ridges might even give you a "swirl" effect, good for 15 hp at the wheels.

Just buy some mandrel bends from JCWhtiney, Jegs or Summit. You can get steel or stainless. They have all kinds of sizes bends and etc. Much cheaper.

on customcougars.com, a CAI intake extension is being sold for only $59... It's the exact same thing as the Titan and GMK.. it'll bolt onto any short-ram system

Good, except you DO NOT WANT PLAIN STEEL. The air that flows through may/will have moisture in it, and that can cause rust, which could cause problems. A good quality stainless would be fine.

I hadn't seen that. Let's see, that's 2 mandrel bends and 3 couplers...I couldn't get the parts for that price.
