Hi All,
I'm looking to replace the stereo in my wife's 98 SVT.
I've taken a trek to a local Circuit City, and was lead to Alpine, Pioneer and Panasonic head units (sorry, can't recall the model #s) and Infinity 6802CF and Polk DB570 speakers.
I'm no expert at audio, but I'm ok with a web search...
The Pioneer head units seem to offer the most bang for the buck, and I'm looking at the DEH-P4600MP and the "premiere" DEH-P460MP. I can't tell the difference from a spec sheet, but since Pioneer calls it premier and it's the same price on the web, is there any reason not to go with the DEH-P460MP?
As far as the speakers go, both Polk and Infinity get very good reviews in the few that I've found, but Infinity seems to get knocked for relatively low bass response, while Polk seems to always get great reviews.
I've found the Infinity 6802CF, 5752CF and the Polk EX357 (is there a EX368?) out there at the best prices, but I can't find a significant number of reviews.
Any opinions on these choices?

Thats basicly what I was going to say, since I've used both. So I think you basicly answered your own question, get the polks

So as for the size, should it be 5x7 or 6x8?

they are the same thing, just that 5x7's usually have the mounting bracket lengthened a bit so they can be mounted in cars they have 6x8 holes.

the infinity has a swivel tweeter that i dont believe the polks have just to screw up your decision. i needed a decent rear door speaker and just ordered infinity reference 5x7s for around $40 from ikesound on ebay. i checked on the polk db570 but the lack of swivel tweeter led me to the infinity. i used to have the kappa 5x7 (wish i had kept at least a set) but the rear fill will be run off the hu and and will be faded out most of the time so they'll do their job.

Check out my signature. I've worked with car audio for years and here's my suggestion. If you want to add a sub(s) or already have them get the Infinity speakers remember these are not a bass drivers, that's what the box will take care of. Infinity's are far more accurate then the polks. If you don't have and don't plan on getting a sub box and are looking for a little more bass then use the polk as you will not have a box to handle the lows.

I/we fit in the latter (no sub now or planned) category. I went back to Circuit City today and listened to Infinity 6802CFs vs Polk DB570s on a Pioneer DEH-P4600MP and it was just as you said: The highs were very clear on the Infinitys, but there was a lack of bass. The Polks had better bass, but lacked clarity. Each of their strengths/weaknesses were noticeable. I'll be going back again to test with my own CDs tomorrow, but I suspect it won't change. I ended up buying some Polk EX357s right after over the web. I'll be going back to try out Pioneer vs Panasonic and Sony HUs Originally posted by Alex T.:

All 3 have good decks, a cool thing to check out by panasonic is there new line of decks. They have a new deck with a digital amplifier giving 70x4 rms i believe. The rear channels on the deck are also bridgeable so you could run a small sub if you needed. Don't have the deck myself, but i think it would be worth checking into if you're looking to spend a little more on a deck.
