In looking at amps, I had originally decided on the JBL P80.4, but the speakers I am buying can take up to 60W RMS and the JBL produces only 40W. So I went looking for another amp and found a nice US Acoustics amp that produces 4x65W RMS, which is too much for the speakers. Is there a way of reducing the power that the amp is producing, either directly on the amp, or through something in the wiring to the speakers?
And a second question, if I buy a 4 channel amp and don't use the back two channels to start with, and bridge them later, is the amp going to treat the front two like bridged channels and start pushing more than 100W through the fronts? Is there a way to deactivate the back two channels, or is that necessary? Do I need to buy a 2 channel amp or buy the sub for the back two channels now in order to prevent the destruction of my components?

Using only the front channels for now will not cause any harm and no, the fronts will not a recieve any more power. Because the speakers you're using recommend 60 watts rms doesn't mean that you have to supply that exact amount of power. More power is better than not enough so your probably better off with that us acoustics amp, though I'm sure the JBL would work fine too.

Yeah, what he said. Also, if you bridge the rear channels, the front channels will stay the same.
and RMS is like the average it should get. so if it says 60 and the max is 120, you should be fine with anything between 60-75

Even if the 60WRMS is for the tweeter and not the woofer? (I am making my own component set) Also, the US Acoustics amps appear underrated because according to the eBay page, the amp I was looking at (US Acoustics USX4065) is supposedly rated at 4x65 at 12.4V, meaning it produces something approaching 4x80 at 14V. Is that accurate, or is fuzzy math coming into play here?

More like marketing,,, that amp isn't gonna hurt your speakers, atleast not from over powering them.
