I've used the search and am still a little confused. I'm NOT going to do a tranny flush now I'm just gonna drain it from the plug and add. Two questions.. Where exactly is the drain plug on the 2.0 automatic and how much will it drain or need to refill? Also cause I don't know what the previous owner used for fluid(I just bought the car) what fluid should I use for the drain and fill? I'm also changing the engine oil with mobil 1 synthetic.

Mobil 1 also makes an excellent ATF, but much like the engine oil it is expensive. If you want to protect the ATX, though, it would probably be your best bet.

I went with the mobil 1 in both the engine and tranny so that went well. Now a couple of more questions from the newbie. When I shift from either park, reverse,or neutral into drive there is like a 2 second delay before drive will engage and if you don't wait a couple of seconds you will rev and bang the gear. Also within the first 5-10 min of my commute my tranny will act funny by seemingly going from 4th to 3rd gear like 3-5 times and then it stops and doesn't do it again for the rest of my 30 min commute. It almost feels like it's seraching for a gear by downshifting and then upshifting a few times. I read something about a "gear range selector" or something like that. What could be the problem with the 2 above mentioned problems. Thanks for all your help.

Well, The guy that I bought it from had the engine and tranny replaced with ones that had only 45k on them. He had a tranny leak with the original one and was able to get a good deal for both instead of just the tranny. The car has 110k but I would say around 50k for the motor and tranny.

it could be the range sensor, but I would not rule out basic engine tune up either. My car was doing the samething and I changed my plugs and wires, which had about 60K on them, with new one's and it took care of the problem. Just an idea to keep in mind.

Sorry I forgot to mention the it has had a full tune-up,new mass air from ford, and new IAC. Where is this range sensor on the tranny? Is it hard to replace/expensive?

The Transmission Range sensor is located on top of the tranny. Not hard to replace if you have access to a hoist, otherwise it could be a job and a half.

I hope I caught you in time. Use only Mercon I, II, or III. Do NOT use Mercon V. The manual specifically states that Mercon V may cause damage to the tranny.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
