Hi There,

I'm dying to get my subs out of my trunk and into my car. Has anyone done this? I have to 10's. I spoke with a guy who runs this car audio place today and he was talking about taking out my back dash (cutting it), building a plate several inches below it, mounting the subs in there... and then putting a large speaker cover across my whole back deck. Only problem is I need to buy different type of subs because my MTX's require and enclosure.

Check out a thread called "speakers in rear deck" in this forum from a few weeks ago.

A few people have done this. Major complaints include tons of rattling, plus having the sun beat down on your speakers isn't so great for them. You'd have to cover the speakers somehow.

Upside includes more storage room in the trunk. Plus -- if you have the sub in the car, you only need one, so you could probably sell the two you have and buy the one you'd want without having to shell out much except for whatever they charge to do the install.

Also -- on the passenger side of the rear deck there is a hole about 6.5 inches diameter. People have mounted 8" woofers to MDF, then the MDF to the rear deck, creating a 'spacer'.

Apparently the sound is not quite as boomy as twin woofers, but the bass is right there where you want it.

I put Polk MOMO 6.5 components in the rear ledge....just made a bracket the fit them slightly below the ledge so the speaker movement dosen't hit the metal....and mounted the tweeters on the read ledge..they are directional so i feced them towards the front....and i mounted the crossovers on the back seats in the truck next to my CAPS.
they added a ****load of midbass...i'm not saying go spend 500.00 bucks on MOMO's but if you mount 3 8" subs in the rear deck with a nice Sony ES amp 300.00 bucks 75x4@0.5 OHM stable and bridge it to those 8" and tweeters and you will get some good bass..
3 8's in the rear ledge will be like a 10 in the truck only cleaner......and a lot more responsive to fast beats.....
just my thoughts tho....

There are a lot of ideas floating around for custom work. Anything is possible, with the right amount of work or money.

What is you goal, increased trunk space without sacrificing bass?

APT, I would like extra trunk space but that's not the main issue. I don't like how subs sound in a truck, I much prefer the sound of them when they are inside of the car. Unfortunitly the contour doesn't have a lot of avaible space inside. The rear deck is the only place I could think of.

Hoe much money are you willing to invest?

You might be happy enough replacing your door speakers with the a Vifa component set which is a huge improvement over stock doors. Another route is the rear deck option. I currenty have an 8" driver mounted where that 6.5" hole is. Check out http://contour.org/forums/Forum5/HTML/000737.html for more info. But bass shouldn't really change through the rear seat.

Answer this. Does your current setup sound exactly liek you want with the back seat folded down? If not, then new drivers or box would be the reason you don't like your sound, not that the sound is going through your back seat.

i have a question about subs in a contour.I installed some subs in my ex's contour and wondering what would be the better way of getting more and better bass out of them? Should i face them towards the front or the back? Their two 10's in a sealed box.

The best answer is try both ways. It only takes a few minutes and only you can decide which is better. If neither way sounds good, port the box.

I would agree with Aarons suggestion of trying both ways. I would hesitate porting the box. Ported boxes are pretty difficult to tune correctly. If you want more bass and you want to port the enclosure, make sure you build the box to the MFG specs. Or post what kind of subs you are using and t/s parameters for that sub and I'll let you know what size to use for the box and the port.

I would try buying a bigger sub or getting 2 high quality 10" subs and run alot of power to them. Even in the trunk you could produce some major bass. Although I have no idea what kind of subs or power you are running to them. Sound like you just need to adjust your bass response or get a diff kind of box. If it's to boomy or to tight etc.
