I need new all-season tires that can stand up to winter in Michigan. I have used 205/55-16 KDWS's in the past, and have been happy with them (although 20,000 mile life is a little short in my book).

Anyone have any feedback on Pirelli's Nero M+S? I would like to use them in a 225/50-16 on E1 wheels.

My other option would be Continental ExtremeContact, or maybe KDWS again.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Well I just ordered a set of 225/40/18 for my car that are the Zero Nero M+S. However I didnt know they were all seasons. I thought they were a summer tire only. Anything I can find on Pirelli's website portrays they are summer only tires, but I could be wrong again!!

I've got the Conti Extemems in 215/45/17, bought em due to there high tread wear rating.

Had em since October. No snow here in Cali. They are good for the rain and dry traction is good, its no Summer season tire like the KDW but its a good tire for the money.

I considered the Nero but at over $100 more for a set of 4 I felt it wasnt worht it. The Conti Extreme is placed in 2nd position with the Nero being the favorite on the Tire Racks rating system.

If you want a 3-season tire check the Fuzion tire on TireRacks site, no reviews yet but bang for the buck looks good.

I have the contiextrems and am happy. Cheaper than the pirrelis. I would check out the fuzions though for sure. I probably would have gotten them if they were out when I bought my tires.

I put my new ContiExtremeContacts on two weeks ago, just in time for a blizzard. I drove about 300 miles at night on roads that weren't plowed. I saw one car go into a snow bank when trying to make a right hand turn. My car on my brand new Contis never felt so secure.

That being said, I think snow tires are a must if you get significant snow where you live. ContiExtremes are NOT snow tires - they are all season radials - which might be fine if you live south of the Mason Dixon line. They will do in a pinch but are not meant to be driven extensively all winter in snowy and icy conditions. Thats what snow tires are for.
