..rock wins. took off a huge chuck of the oil pan and some paint on the rear bumper. lost the rear grille too. hopefully the bearings are still ok....still have to take it all apart and check. i have pics of the damage but i haven't taken them off the camera yet.

on the upside, i have on '05 escape pan, oil filler tube, and dipstick, all new bolts and gasket on the way....i just replaced the gasket on the pan like 2 months ago too!! i found the drain plug still attached to a good sized chunk of metal and another good sized piece in the road. the svt rear bumpers are pretty strong when it comes to a 15 lb rock hitting it at 40 mph. i am not really pissed, only that i had to take off the CF bumper in duncun donuts parking lot and tow the beeotch home at 11 pm last nite. anyone want to come down to toledo on sat. and lend a hand?

Ben

What exactly did you hit (I know a rock), but where, and how? And how is something large enough to do that kind of damage invisible? Glad it's not worse though.

That's what I'm wondering! And how long after you hit it did it take for you to shut it down? That'll help to determine whether the bearings are ok. I blew my oil line for my pressure gauge (luckily with cold thick oil) and it took about 5 seconds for the dummy light to come on and the gauge to drop to 0 PSI, and it ran for another couple seconds before I had caught the light and shut it down. Everything was fine. I would say, as long as you killed it and coasted to a stop, when the dummy light came on, you SHOULD be fine. Just my .02 FWIW.

the CF bumper was not touched....but from as far as i can tell, so far, it is just going to be a quick oil pan swap...the parts should be here in a few days, and i have the whole weekend off to mess with it. i plan on going bmx racig on sunday though, so hopefully there is not anymore damage than what it appears to be already. parts cost $136.15 and probably a little for s&h from las vegas....

after hitting the rock i coasted for about 500ft and then immediatly shut it off once i got into the duncun donuts parking lot...it was still dripping oil pretty good as i shut it off so i think i will be ok...

the rock was in a dark spot and it was the same color as the road. kinda hard to see it with tinted windows too..this is more of a hassle than anything else. i am not mad at all. mikeyboy and myself did the oil pan gasket a few months ago, and 2 people defenetly make this job a lot easier, and neither of us had done this particular job before, and it was very simple, to me at least. just a little messy from laying under the oil-pan-less car. shoot me a PM if anyone wants to learn a thing or 2 this weekend.

Ben
