Nope, ATF type F will do just fine.

My manual calls for Mercon. I thought Type F was different.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Type F was specified for '95, and Mercon for '96 and above. According to what I've read, there are no hardware differences in the steering system, so I don't see any problems. When I did a flush, I had to use my Haynes manual in lieu of a regular manual, and they specify type F for all years. They've been known to make mistakes, though. You could always go overkill and put in Mobil 1 ATF

If in doubt, use Mercon.

My 96 owners manual calls for Automatic Transmission Fluid type "F", it didnt change to Mercon until 98.

Use Lubeguard PS fluid additive to get more protection for your system.

Mobil 1 ATF is a great option.

Higher thermal protection, longer life, less prone to frothing, and you'll pick up a pony or two.

2000 SVT #674 13.47 @ 102 - All Motor! It was not broke; Yet I fixed it anyway.
