I've just replaced the passenger side tie rod end for the third time So now I'd like to know what tools are needed and what is the procedure for greasing your tie rod ends. I understand that the stock ones don't need it and its not even possible with them but I'm on my second set of MOOG tie rod ends which do have grease fittings (though I don't know what they look like or how one would use them). Also what kind of grease do you use for this application. I want this tie rod end to last me the rest of the time I have the car! Thanks in advance and yes I searched for this answer before I posted.

If the new tie rods are greasable, they sould have grease fittings on them. It is possible that they have small plugs that need to be removed to install grease fittings.
Any auto parts store, including Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc., should have grease guns and fittings. A cartridge of chasis grease will do just fine, any brand will do.

Thanks Big Jim. I hate to ask the autozone guys anything especially if I don't even know what I'm talking about. But with that info I can go there and at least pretend that I know what I'm talking about.

Yeah, you need Zerk fittings for the ends. I use Synpower Synthetic w/MoS2, NLGI No. 2. My ends are stock, but I grease them by very carefully inserting a grease injector needle between the boot and stem and pumping a few times. One end looks like a hypodermic needle while the other is a Zerk that snaps into the grease gun hose. This technique will work for ball joints or any other component like this that does not are not considered greasable.
