I have a 98 SE V6 which had a pronounced clunking sound from the front end when I turned the steering wheel leaving a parking lot. See "Steering Column" post. I took it to the dealer and had both front coil springs replaced for free. I was told that while there has not been a recall for this problem, if someone brings their Contour in for this problem, Ford will take care of it. Good for them!

Yeah the front coil springs ARE under extended warranty for quite a few years, there is no way Ford would do a repair for free.
