Hey guys I just got a 1998 Contour with 23k miles on it and now I'm putting in a sound system in her.The problem I have is that I had to cut the wireing harness for the radio off because I told my girlfriends dad he could have my old radio.Sooooo now I need to know what color wire goes where. Which is the right rear,ground,left front,power, etc.

Once i had the speaker wires isolated, i just connected a 9v battery to each pair until i heard a pop, then i just figured out where it was coming from. You can also get a multimeter to test for polarity. If you want to test for ground, just hook up one lead to closest metal and then to each of the wires until you get continuity. I dont think this is how most do it (i just have the multimeter because i do electronics.)

or you could just go to 12volt.com and look up the color codes for your car
but to each his own

so u know before someone jumps down your throat, any basic question like that u should be able to find using the search function. the wiring diagram has been posted plenty of times

oh and welcome and how'd u find a 98 w/ only 23k miles?

I did go to 12volt.com and looked and they did'nt have it. And I did search the forum but no dice. I bought the car lightly wercked on the passenger side( you can't tell now)for $1700 I have right at $2800 in the car. Thanks for the help!

u have to join 12volt to be able to access the wiring database. thats where i got the info to post above
