I have a '95 Contour SE w/ manual transmition

I first noticed that the throttle was sticking on the highway. I was on a trip and had been using cruise a lot. I thought cruise was on but when I clicked off nothing happened. I tried hitting the brake peddle, but the gas peddal wouldn't come out. I put in the clutch for a second and imediately the engine started to rev up, so I left it in fifth (manual). I shut off the car, and started it(on the highway) and , but the gas pedal wouldn't come out. Eventually I sut off the car, pumped the gas a few times, and restarted - and it freed up a little.

I made it to a gas station and checked out the cables. I don't think it has anything to do with the cruise. I just cleaned the TB, so I know that's not gummed up. I think it could be three things:
1) Cable from peddal to traction control module,
2) Cable from traction control module to tb,
3) or traction control module.

has anyone had a problem with these? Any suggestions as to what I should check out/replace?

P.s. It was snowing/freezing rain on the trip. I wonder if water could have got in and froze up lines (while on highway)

Thanks,
Nathan

Has the car had the recall on throttle cable done?
If you don't know I suggest you check your VIN at any dealer for outstanding recalls.

I haven't checked on the recall, but I will when I get back from my trip.

I'd be interested to know what you find out. My throttle has recently been sticking. I find that it almost always takes care of itself. Also, the sticking appears to be worse in the colder weather.

Only sometimes do I need to put in the clutch and watch the throttle bounce off the rev limiter.

I find that a few blips of the throttle take care of the problem. Looks like my car isn't covered under this warranty.

Good Luck.

I checked the traction control module and discovered that the cable had slipped off the spool, which solved a problem I was having with it binding up past half throttle.

I haven't since had it stick on me, and am thinking that it must have been related to the cold, wet weather that I was driving in for the extended period of time. Perhaps water got into the TC housing ??? I don't know.

I am glad that I didn't have to dish out $170 for the throttle cable from TC module to peddal. I'll keep you posted if it starts sticking again though.
