I want to put an MP3 player in my car. I have an extra 486 PC at home that i have already built but i do not know how to hook up an LCD to it or control the songs. I also have an amp and pioneer stereosystem with a sub, so i could plug the computer into the AUX in the amp... any ideas about the LCD? I do not know how to wire anything, so instructions would have to come with the LCD display...

Also, lets say i DONT use the computer/LCD method. Can i use my current 6 CD changer which is hooked up to my pioneer stereosystem to play mp3 cds, if i change the stereosystem to for example, the AIWA mp3 one?

Though i think pioneer is superior to aiwa...but anyway :-)

Thanks for your help guys,

Eric

Don't know anything about the first part of you question but Your CD changer will not be able to play MP3's no matter what your HU is. Good luck on the PC thing. Always looked to confusing to try. There are a lot of sites out there that can walk you through the process though.

Coors is right about not being able to play MP3 cds on your changer. A mp3 capable HU has a decoder built in to handle the data from the disc. WHen you connect your changer to a HU, all you're doing is hooking up the left/right and remote control features (providing you're using a HU and changer from the same manufacturer). I'm sure by next april there'll be some CD/MP3 changers, but for right now, you're stuck with the solid state changers (like the rockford fosgate) or getting the $500 Nomad Jukebox and running it into the AUx in.

I have a complete system even with a 14" flap panel monitor, that I was going to use for playing MP3's, DVD's and even watch TV, and browse the internet using my cell phone. I have since decided against that, and any MP3 player I get is going to be like the Neo-35, or even the Neo-25. It's not worth the hassle for me now. Just get a Neo-25 for less than $200 and slap in a laptop hard drive with a few gigs on it, and you're set.

Hey Chris --

where can I get some info on the 'neo's you've mentioned?

I assume they are HD based mp3 players for in car use... do they also play CDs? Talk to you soon.

1) the computer thing i have already looked into, but i need to hookup and wire the LCD (solder it) into the printer port and i dont know how to program the display after..etc...so its complicated for me.

2) As for that neo idea, thats more convenient, plus i can take it anywhere else since its a portable cd player. I can buy a long audio wire from radioshack (6 feet seems adequate), plug it into the AUX in my amp and that would solve everything... actually i am looking now as we speak on amazon.com and i already found a few mp3 cd players...memorex, casio, dlink, etc...

the casio one looks like it is the best out of the ones they offer...

Thanks for the help guys

Regards,

Eric

Brian,
Here is the information on the Neo's

Once the Neo 5100 comes out you can play both HDD, CD-ROM and regular audio CD's. That's the one I'm going to wait for.

Eric,

I would recommend against getting the head units that play MP3 CD's. And the portable CD-ROM MP3 players. SAve the $100 or so and get a "real" MP3 player. One with a hard drive.
Solid state ones with memory cards are not good either. Most songs I have would chew through even a 64MB flash card pretty quick.

Chris -- thanks for the update.

Any idea on how much that'll run? Where can I get some info on it -- i.e. website, phone number.

I figure if I can spend a bit more on a mp3 deck of some sort, I won't need to spend money on a CD changer!
