Hello,
I have noticed that my battery light comes on under hard acceleration, and my gauge lights dim. I have also observed that when my anti-lock brakes kick in, my gauges dim as well (not sure if the battery light comes on, I don't remember).
I know its not my battery, as it is only a couple of months old. Could this be an alternator?
Thanks in advance for the help!

With "hard acceleration" you mean like slamming down the pedal? Is your belt fairly old, your belt could be slipping because it cant get up the speed it needs to be at that fast.

I had to pull the alternator on the 99 and it has just under 60k
well the brushes were pretty worn, infact one was worn much more then the other.
so at high rpm the brushes will in a sense "hydroplane" or float and not actually make contact, I beleive this is what causes the battery light at high rpm, and that is why it is a sign of the alternator going
the brushes are spring loaded so after a certain point they will not make contact anymore, or the spring might weaken over time, thus not keeping contact

By hard acceleration, I really mean high RPM's.
Can the alternator be repaired, or does it just make sense to buy a new one? I checked out the Autozone website, and they list a repair kit for $40, but no details as to what that kit is.

forget the "repair" & brush kits. Buy a lifetime warranty alternator from AutoZone & fix it yourself. My alterntor was pricey at $172-$35 core, but I got her in & its working fine. If it ever blows up, I get a freebie.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Why would you say to forget the repair kit? Shouldn't it contain all the parts that are likely to wear out?
