Hi...

Ever wish you stayed sleeping on the couch? I do now..:(

Everything was working fine with the new radio except this loud static on AM radio when the key was turned to its first position. After adding int a ground that the radio manuf recommended my buddy when to ohm it out when he shorted out the 12v memory line for the radio to ground. Yes we did have the battery unhooked right before this but...communications failure.

So...what i thought was nothing more than a blown fuse for the radio turned out that I lost the interior lights...ability to adjust the outside mirrors...radio...inside clock. All which use diff fuses.
I thought this might be bad.....esp if I have to bring it to the dealer.

I tried diagnose it myself. The line he shorted was a Orange/black wire that goes to fuse F36 according to the Hayes Manual...which is odd as it says its the airbag fuse. That was fine. I figured it has to be before the fuses to affect 3 diff fuses. I check the voltages to F32 which is the main radio fuse and there is no voltage on either side of the fuse. I cant seem to see whats common to these fuses other than this "+ busbar"....is that just a big copper bar that the rest of the wires run off of?

Anyway...I have a feeling this will be a big dealer charge which we dont need right now. At least I can drive the car...has all its lights...wipers...horn...runs...but any ideas what to check??

TIA!
JM

These devices are all fed from Fuse 34 7.5 amp interior fuse panel. Spare fuses in cover of engine compartment fuse box.
F32 requires key in acc or run to have volts.

Haynes manual almost useless for wiring since diagrams are of European model (e.g. F36 feeds air bags with O/GN wire over here).

You didn't give car info which is always of interest and sometimes relevant. Above applies to '97.

Like Doug said. Just check the fuse panel located above drivers side kick panel and replace the blown fuse, no biggie.

Man did I have my head up my butt on that one!!! Very sorry...its a 1995 Mystique GL 2.0L.

>>wiring since diagrams are of European model <<

That could explain why some things didnt make sense. Like them saying the fuse box was on the passenger side of the car under the glove box. Mine is on the driver side.

That was it!!! Dam...thought we pulled out that one as it was in backwards as far as the 7.5 white lettering vs the other fuses. I could not understand why the fuse didnt blow protecting that line. So far the interior lights are all back on. See how everyting else goes tomorrow when I can get another fuse to replace the one I borrowed.:)

Thanks very much!!

At first thats what I figured...easy. But somehow I missed that fuse F34 being blown...so when I looked at the Haynes it shows F34 for the lights...but F36 and F32 as the radio fuses...and those were fine. THats when I got worried.
I didnt get to check the radio tonight...to darn cold and dark out there..:)
