I received this from member wjang today. It is a nice diagram for the wiring colors of the premium sound system. This one is for a cassette system, but the CD one is the same. There have been a lot of questions on bypassing the amp and what wires go where and do I need a harness. Well with this you can just match up the wires and forget the harness if you desire. At least it should help with bypassing the amp since people have had trouble getting the right adapter to hook up to the speaker wires. Just slice 'em and splice 'em.
Thanks again for the diagram Wes.

The pic doesn't work. If you right click on it and go to Properties and copy the link and paste it into the link bar, then it should work.

So I can bypass the amp? Do I just not plug in the harness but instead cut the wires and attach them directly to the speaker wires off the new head unit?

If that;s the case than the brown/red wire off the car splices onto the gray wire on the HU.
The white/red wire splices onto the gray/black wire. That's for the Right Front and that's me assuming that brown/red is positive an white/red is negative.

Sorry for all these questions, but I just got this 98 SVT, did one helluva burnout and the factory CD player died. Radio worked though, but I decided it was time for it to go. now I got a tape deck and CD Changer , but for the last 4 days I've just had an open space under the climate controls.

Someone please help me out. I'm struggling.

yes, if you have an aftermarket HU, bypass the amp. The little things just dosen't have much power.

Glad the diagram is useful for some of you.
The info contained in the diagram came from a Haynes manual and my own car.

Just for a little clarification, the WHT (White) wire going from the factory HU to the factory amplifier carries the signal to turn the amp on (I have not checked this myself since I replaced everything).
I'm not sure what the "Door Lock Module" connection is for.

The color codes that Ford uses for the speaker connections will probably not match those of most head units, so here are the standard EIA codes:

12 Volt Switched (Ignition)...RED
12 Volt Battery (Always on)...YELLOW
Ground........................BLACK
Power Antenna.................BLUE
Amp Turn-On...................BLUE/WHITE
Illumination (Dash Lamps).....ORANGE
Dimmer........................ORANGE/WHITE

Speaker Connections
+ Right Front.................GRAY
- Right Front.................GRAY/BLACK
+ Left Front..................WHITE
- Left Front..................WHITE/BLACK
+ Right Rear..................VIOLET
- Right Rear..................VIOLET/BLACK
+ Left Rear...................GREEN
- Left Rear...................GREEN/BLACK

Wes,

Do the Contours have the little flashing warning light to show that the PATS system is active in the head unit ?

On the Mondeos this light is incorporated in the dash clock and sure enough I have a Bk/Og wire going into that from the Door Lock Module.

Just a thought

Regards

Shawn

Shawn yes they do have the flashing light and you are probably right on the money.
