dnewman04 has 7's I believe, but I remember the thread your talking about, can't find the name either. Wasn't much to it except making a plate to mount the 8 to. I have 6.5" JL subs in my door with my 6.5 RF mids. They are in a steel bracket that I welded in place of the old bracket. All that is require is a mig welder and some 1/4" metal to cut up. It took me a couple days to get done. The sub pushes out the interior door panel a bit, but otherwise the window won't roll down so I had no choice. I think the only real downside to the door mounted subs is that even at low volume, the seatbelt reels in the B pillar rattle.

The 7s are a future upgrade waiting for my kick panels to get done (8s are also a possibility if i can get some that aren't too deep. Sombody installed some 8" woofers in the door though...I can't remember who it was either.

For spacious staging up front, the mid/woofer should be as small as is practical. I personally use a 5" aluminum cone mid/woofer and a ribbon tweeter. I have not changed the rear speakers yet, but I am planning to do so. Band limiting the rear door woofers will make them sound "up front", and the smaller diamter (5") mids will provide superior dispersion and imaging. Try using a "high Q" or "free air" 8" to get the proper match to not actually having an enclosure. If you would like pix of my setup with the aluminum 5" and the ribbon tweeter, just let me know and I will post the pics. -Scott

Here they are: They show through the panel a bit. I also cut and mutilated the pocket under the head unit to accept an eq. As for what brand the ribbons are, I have seen and bought them under 3 different names (Pioneer, JVC, and Radio Shack), but all are identical. They have a step down transformer on the back which makes them fairly deep to mount. They cannot be crossed over very low, and are most likely fairly fragile, but they sound very fast, smooth, and detailed. -Scott

Yeah, I did 8's in the front doors. I made a 3/4" MDF spacer with my trusty Roto-zip, and had a minimal amount of sheet metal to trim. I used Orion Xtreme XTR MB 8's http://www.orioncaraudio.com/orion.html Some of the other speakers I was considering included: MB Quart 8" MidBasses,Image Dynamics 8's, or Focal 7 inchers. I got a good deal on the Orions so I went that route, but I'm sure these others will work as well. Good Luck, Bito PS I took some pics, but can seem to find them right now. If I find them I'll post'em
