I am a newbie to this site and a newbie Contour Sport owner. First off let me tell you I am a woman, so I need help...lol. My contour has the Duratec 2.5L V6 24 Valve DOHC motor. I LOVE the way it sounds. I just wish you could hear it through the exhaust. I went to Midas today and they told me they could put a new muffler on it and take out the resonator and put a straight pipe on for about $150 taxes included. What I am wanting to know is what kind of muffler would be good for my car. I just want to be able to hear that great sounding "growl" through the exhaust. But I don't want it to sound like those little kids and their Hondas. Also, should I have the resonator removed to acheive the growl sound? I am not looking to spend hundreds of dollars on the exhaust. If anyone could help me that would be great! Thanks! chandra1220@comcast.net

I would suggest you replace the resonator with a Dynomax or Magnaflow "straight through" unit & then replace your existing muffler with a straight through resonator or glass pack.

It will be louder than stock, definately, but not ricer boy sounding.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Thank you! Thank you! Good to see someone enjoy a nice throaty American exhaust sound than a plastic import.

Keep reading these boards and you'll be a pro in no time! There's a great "how to" section on the main page that gives advice on how to fix things, and a list of the many places to get parts for the Contour.

I have the resonator removed and a glass pack on my 'tour. Sounds pretty good to me, not ricey at all.

Welcome to the CEG!!

As a point of reference, I also had mine done at Midas- for $30 plus tax (straight pipe only)

edit: if you mean with resonator/muffler, yeah, $90 - $100 is about right.
