Hey y'all. I've had an idea and I would like some feedback.
I'm getting 2 12's put in my mystique but I don't want to lose much trunk space. If I put
the subs in truck boxes with hinges on the sides to move them out of the way when necessary, would this work. I don't know why I'm big on trunk space, but you never know when you need it, right?
Let me know what you think.

Do we really have to do the rating system?

I can totally understand why you'd be big on your trunk space -- we're driving small family sedans!! We need the space, plus we have to be able to use our split folding seats! I feel the same way, which is why i'm not sure I'll get a sub. Your idea sounds very plausible, but you need to figure out how you'll hinge it.

A 12 incher is pretty heavy (no sick minds please!) when it's put in a box, so you'd have to use a few hinges to spread the weight evenly along the wall of the trunk. I'm sure you've seen the hinges that run the entire length of whatever they're holding, made of metal. That might be an option. Mind you, if you put a small caster (wheel) on the bottoms of the boxes, they could wheel out of the way and fit flush with the side of the trunk, then use some high strengh Velcro linings to hold them in place!

Maybe. Who knows... You could line the sides with two 12" bass tubes!

Arg!! I dunno...

well 2 hinges on one side will work fine to hold them up. more so in fact then the piano hinges you were talking about. piano hinges tend to be VERY flimsy. the problem lies more in what you connect it to the car with. cause sheet metal screws may gardually work their way out.

as for the truck boxes, isn't the reason they are so effective because they are right behind the driver. if you are looking for deep hard hitting bass, i'd say no, but if you're looking for a good sounding supplement, then it *should* work fine.

if you put truck boxes in the trunk youll probbably want to have alot of power going to them. also you might have aome rattles to deal w/ unless the hinge has lined bearings or something.
