I know it's illegal to roll back on an odometer if it's the original... but say you buy a cluster from a car with different miles because you want a tach. Is it legal to set the odometer on the new cluster to the old cluster's mileage?

God graced us with intelligence, let's use it.

I though if you tried to adjust mileage it brakes them things.

nope, i bought a used svt cluster from a totalled svt. Only had about 3000 miles on it. If you take off the backing of the odometer you can adjust the mileage. Mine has worked fine ever since I adjusted it.

you can very easily migrate your old odometer unit into the new cluster. it's in a rectangular plasic case held by 4 plastic screws on the backside of the speedo.
you have to pull the speedo needle in order to take the unit apart - do this gently using a fork or something like that as a lever. also, be gentle when pushing the needle back, don't push it deeper than it was.

will take you less than 10 minutes once you have the two clusters on the table in front of you.
