I agree with the last poster...there comes a point of diminishing returns. I think that point is about 1500.00 for me, more like 2500.00 for most people. 2500 will get you top quality stuff at every component. 1500 for me because I refuse to pay more than 175-200 per sub when the best quality sub on the market is about 179.00.

Plus, I would do stuff like build my own crosovers and such which would allow a pretty cheap system.

I was thinking of going with a layout like this, only having the lower subs hidden under the panel. Im planing of building a custom box backlit with blue neons.

The system I installed about 5 years ago in my contour was around $2300 and included a Sony Mobile ES cass head unit,Sony 10disc changer,Sony DSP unit w/eq,a Sony crossover unit, two 8" kicker subs,a kicker amp for them,a Alpine 6ch amp(sucks, won't ever buy another one for sure...)Polk 2 ways 6 1/2' in front door w/directional tweets aimed up and dats it. I never did get fill in the rear doors....too friggin difficult running the wires and I burnt out doing all that myself. Running the wires front to rear was a pain in the .... and my amps I mounted to the trunk carpet using tie wraps, and had to make my own adaptor for the subs which are mounted under the rear deck w/ wood adaptors. That was a pain in the ....too. The head unit is in need of upgrading now,but am looking for MP3 type units. Getting away from cassette and would like CD w/MP3 capability on CD R's,and also ditching the changer and going MP3 jukebox type for that also. Still waiting and watching for the most versatile in home/car unit out there. Anyone know of any??? With a large capacity, holding 100 or better albums and can be hooked to the home unit.

If you are looking for spl I would check out the shocker subs. Very good for the money and give you tons of bass.

If you want some nice subs, check out

www.audiomobileinc.com

The MASS is what you are loooking at. Them, Orion HCCA's, DDAudio subs, and strokers are some of the loudest subs you can buy. Also Crystal CMP is a nice sub.

Stroker's are SPL beats, period. They CAN be capable of SQ if you make them.. but by nature they are power loving high SPL in your face no holds barred LOUD subs, period. HCCA's and DDAudio subs are very close in SQ and SPL, and the MASS are a BIT more SQ and a BIT less SPL. Honestly, if you are making a dailt driver and not an SPL machien for competition, I would stear clear of the Strokers and go for the MASS.

NOTE: All of those subs NEED good power.
