A recall before the car is even released, that looks real promising.

It does not surprise me at all. The Ford dealer were I bought my Contour and have all my warrantee work done told me that the Focus had at least ten recalls already and basically the car was a piece of junk compared to the Contour. This is from a large Ford dealer! I think the last CEO of Ford did not pay enough attention in running the business and instead was focused (no pun intended) on acquisitions. He is now gone and the Focus will be a mess for the new CEO to clean up. I would stay away from the Focus, even the SVT version. Just my opinion.

Ford's spending alot of money on the Focus plants to get quality up. Most of the recalls were in 2000. 2002 Foci seem to be better.

With the SVT, I think it's more of a unique thing to that car. Since the recall is only on it.

Like I listen to car salesmen....
This is the 1st recall for the Focus SVT not the tenth. The foucs is such a mess that it makes car of the year lists and sells like hotcakes...what a mess.

these cars feel really nice to drive. i try them out at the ford dealer auction and unless they are rentals and not trashed, they seem to be holding up pretty well. the mtx are really a blast to drive. cant wait to buy a svt. it will probably be two years till they show up at auction as i just got my contour svt last november. cool

Ford has a famous reputation for poor quality starts on new cars. By the time they fix all the problems in year 2 or 3, the damage is done and people avoid them. And then a couple years after that they give a couple years notice that they are killing the car. Which means that you have cars sitting on the lots since nobody wants to touch them. Remind you or a particular vehicle? laugh

The Focus is selling well despite it build quality only because its price point is pretty low. Bump it up one class (like the Contour) and then you have a real problem.

Quality should be job one. And better dealers should be job 2. ha ha ha
