i have a 4cyl 99 SE, i just got a 2000 v6 tach on ebay. i popped it in today and i noticed 2 things. one is the tach of course...it doesnt work. which wire color is it that i need from the ECU for the tach? and which harness/pin does it go into on the cluster to make it work? second, my high beam indicator is screwed up. not sure if it was before i took out my old cluster or not. i put the old one back in and its still doing the same. if i pull on the high beam level the blue high beam indicator light comes on. but it DOESNT come on if i push the level (to leave them on).. anyone know why this is happening? TIA

I mean gauge cluster w/ tach...my b. the headlight light works now, i'm a douche & didn't put the headlights on LOL. does anyone know which is the tach wire in the ECU, or any other place i can get it from besides in injector or coil? also, which plug/pin does it go into on the gauge cluster? big plug, little plug? i have 4 extra wires in the big plug & 2 extra wires in the little plug compared to my stock plugs/harnesses. if someone could respond to this ASAP that would be excellent!! Thanks again guys!

right under your power steering pump. You'll need a 10mm socket with extention to see the wires.

This is something I wrote up a few weeks ago. I think this is the method Hector used. I'm not sure if it applies to anything other than a Zetec ATX. Plus the part about attaching the wire to the stock cluster you can skip....

-----------------------

If your car does not have the tach wire Ford so graciously left behind for some tach-less 'Tour owners here's the procedure.

First you'll need to add a wire to the plug on the driver's side of the instrument cluster (the longer of the two plugs). Leave enough length on the free end of the wire to run through the firewall and back across the car...probably about 8-10 feet to be safe. The wire will need to be inserted in the 8th slot in the plug (counting up from the bottom) such that it will contact the pins when the plug is inserted into the new cluster. Don't worry, the pressure of the snapped-in plug will hold it.

Run the free end of the wire through a grommet in the firewall (I used the one next to the brake pedal pivot). Run the wire behind the firewall insulation over to the PS reservoir. Slide out the PS reservoir (it may need a little prying). Unscrew the 10mm bolt holding the PCM connector in. Once you have the connector in hand, begin to CAREFULLY unsnap the dust cover off the connector. Look for pin 56 (white/black stripe wire). This is where the tach signal comes from. There are pin numbers at the beginning of each row, starting with 52 on this particular row. Take one of those quick-snap splicing thingies (the one's that don't require cutting into the wire) and place it around wire 56. Insert your tach wire (trimmed to the appropriate length), and crimp closed. Snap on the dust cover, and bolt the PCM connector back down. Replace the PS reservoir. Start the car and you should have a properly functioning stock tach! If it should not operate the first time, the problem is more than likely the wire you fed into the plug on the cluster. I had to redo it a time or two to get it right.

----------------------

That pin number of 56 isn't right. Stazi pointed out that it's actually pin 48, not 56. I counted up from 52, not down like I should have.
