I've been considering keeping my 2000 SVT's CD player for a while, but would like to replace the factory amplifier with an aftermarket amp. Unfortunately, I haven't throughly inspected the factory wiring harness yet. I really don't want to cut/splice the factory harness to solder in RCA jacks on the pre-amp outs. Does anyone know of an aftermarket wiring harness that connects in between the headunit and the amp? I would modify this to plug the factory CD outputs into my PPI amp. Also is there another harness that would connect an aftermarket CD player to the factory speaker connector? I would need this to connect the PPI leads to the factory speaker connector.------------------ Tom, 89GT STEEDA 2000 SVT Contour (#289 of 2150) Items 4-Sale

Hello,
The first thing everybody on this forum is going to do is tell you what a piece of junk the factory HU is, so don't be shocked if people tell you to "BUY A NEW HU!!" rather than telling you where to find an adapter. I'll check around for an adapter but I don't know if one exists.
I don't think the aftermarket cd player adaptor exists, but they do make an FM modulator that would plug inline with your antenna that would probably work. You would need to choose a station (usually between 88.7 and 89.3) to use to play your cds. The weakness of this type of system is that you are left with the frequency response of the FM tuner as your max bandwidth on your cd player. It'll usually cut off the upper (15khz+) and lower (40-50hz and down) octaves.

TomV, here's my advice to you. Take the factory deck and amp, and intall them in the bottom af a garbage can because that's what they are. Just to be sure, take the garbage to the dump yourself, that way, you can be sure the menace is over. Now, go buy a new HU. Any new decks (I prefer Alpine) will put out better sound than the stock piece of crap, hell, my a$$ makes better sounds. And by the way, I'm not a "junior member", I've been registered since last september.

Now you see what I'm talking about! Honkeytonk finds many creative ways of disposing of peoples HUs. Poop is usually a major theme, sledge hammers, anvils, vomit, and Peruvian llamas are also mentioned often...

I understand you completely! I know that factory systems suck! My old TBird's audio system was designed to compete in IASCA (International Auto Sound Challange Association) competitions. Problem is that I'd like to keep my SVT Contour near stock, with the ability to return it completely factory condition. I don't want to hack this car up like my other ones. I have added new speakers to the factory locations, but need more power. Another reason I'd like to keep the stock unit is doesn't cost me anything and I already have the PPI ProMOS50 amp, all I have to do is wiring. Just looking for some info to make life easier. ------------------ Tom, 89GT STEEDA 2000 SVT Contour (#289 of 2150) Items 4-Sale

Nice choice in amps! and oldie but a goodie. I had a promos 25 and 50. I love the old PPI stuff (art series and previous)
I think you could modify the bypass kit you can get from crutchfield to be able to use the PPI. You may be able to get it from your local bestbuy also.

i may be a fool for saying this, but i'm quite sure that at some point in shopping on crutchfield, i saw information about something that will convert speaker signal into line signal leaving you with rca outputs that may be connected to an external amp. just a thought, good luck on working this out!
don't drink and drive.
