The aircon on my 1999 2.0 Zetec Mondeo has stopped working. The system was regassed last summer and worked fine after that. The light on the button comes on, but there is no cooling of the air and the magnetic clutch to the compressor is not tripping in. I have swapped the relay (blue) in the engine bay fusebox with one from a working system, but still no good. Normally this relay would click as the system is turned on and off. Is the above the sign of a major leak (no gas and system won't run) or have I missed something obvious? Are there any associated fuses?

if the freon leaks out the compressor will not run.. but you can run wires to it direct to see if it will run... then or you could get them to check the charge in it and get it recharged so it will let the compressor run.......

Temp was well above 5C when I tried it earlier. This is my girlfriends car, the aircon on my ST24 was working fine in the same ambient.

mine stopped working, due to a refrigerant leak.
shoot some dye in there and check for leaks.
ford covers some of the components, and lines with foam insulation, which traps in moisture, and causes them to corrode, so you may have to peel some of it off, to find the leak. (mine was the rec/dryer)

Could be a leak...could also be a faulty pressure switch or wiring. Check your pressures first and if your low, you need to find the leak....Oh Oh...someone else said FREON???
Nottty word...its R134A.

R134A? do you mean tetraflouroethane?
Freon is R12, and the name belongs to Dupont, I believe.
