VTEC is NOT used on all honda engines,, my mom's 02 civic doesn't have it. It's on the optional engines though. Hondas aren't crap, just a lot of them aren't tastefully done. If I was shopping used cars, I sure wouldn't buy a honda, they hold their value too well. They can still have problems,,, a contour can have the same/less problems when taken care of. I also prefer the contour over hondas that would have been in my price range when I bought my car as the contour is roomier and a better performer. But not all hondas suck,,, but they're certainly not the king of all cars as many honda drivers seem to think.

Well, there is a subset of Honda owners that deform their babies in uspeakable ways thinking it beautiful.
Also, in stock form, most Hondas are not made to catch the eye of the enthusiast, so they seem more like a household appliance than an automobile to enthusiasts.
Having driven the Acura TL, I will say when they are trying to entice the enthusiast, they certainly can.

The majority of Acura's are 6-cylinder and tend to be a little too pricy to the ricer crowd, the Integra is a major exception.
I have seen far too many riced out Integra's in my day to say I would like them, but if I could get my hands on a mint condition Type R that hadn't been beaten and I could afford it I would be all over it. With that being said they stil have the typical Honda shortcoming of little torque, not that the Duratec is exactly a low-end torque monster.
Well that's my opinion, Pete

Yeah, honda base 4cyls (comparing to say a zetec, ford's current base 4cyl I believe or atleast last year's, and base in contour)=not enough power. I'd take my engine in a car that weighs as much as a civic any day over a civic with stock engine. Even the civic Si doesn't have any balls, my engine has same torque as it, though it does have 30hp more. Friend of mine had one, it was nice once you hit ~5k rpm, but not very impressive until that point.

Ooooh, I will tell why Honda sucks! (and Acura) 1. Hondas dont last long. I see alot of old Ford (mostly old Fords), old GMs, old Dodge's lasting awhile, while a 91 Accord is barily kicking though, and is gaining lots of rust. 2. Alot of people saw "The Fast and the Furious" and decided to pose off them, and buy a Civic, accord, Supra, then try to make it powerful, while it actually isnt, just a stupid muffler that sounds like a fuggin 2cycle snowblower 3. Honda's have fugly ass desgins. I took a picture of Honda Civic, and modern Honda Accord, the end is rather similar, just similar layout... very similar 4. They are stupid, "OH!!!! I got this new spoiler on my Civic EX, its pimpin yo!" or "Lets goto autozone yo, and get some sticker decals that say NOS, flames, and Type R and put it all over my Civic EX" 5. Its too f*ckin common, and it is not unique! THINK OF SOMETHING UNIQUE! "Hmm, those 4 Civic owners had 2 different back rims... im gunna do that!" 6. Most of these modified Hondas rarily see a track... they are loaded though, but the owners are stupid and decide to street race it, get busted, and loose their car that they invested alot of money into, or crash, or just have it there for looks. 7. Its an Import 8. Dull look on interior and exterior Im sure I can come up with more... but im done for now

Not sure how many Supras you've ridden/driven in, but if you think they aren't powerful and sound like a 2 cycle snowblower, then you have lost your credibility at #2..
Also, Supras are TOYOTA!!

My first car was one of the original Integras (1989). Fortunately, it was clean and unmodified, mainly because it predated the ricer's tastes - they like the 90 an up. Yes, the car's styling didn't really evoke much emotion, but it drove like a go kart, and was a great first car for its durability. Though, the transmission died at 200k. Can't have everything, I guess. I now have Focus ZX3 and love it, it reminds me a lot of that Integra in its spunkiness, though it feels more like a VW Golf, which isn't so bad.
