Hey All,
The time has come that I am considering trading in the SVT for a new sport trac. I am wanting to get peoples opinions on this vehicle. I don't really know much about them. I went and drove one today -- was extremely nice, not a whole lot of power but enough for me now. (got to think of the baby) I have an 8 month old daughter and the SVT is turning out to be a pain rather than a pleasure.
The car seat doesn't fit well in the rear, the wife hates it. We need a good family car that still looks good. I want a truck but need the functionality of an SUV, so my thoughts are that it is a good mix.
I really hate to get rid of the SVT but I think the time has come.
Oh and by the way listed it in the classifieds, would love for it to stay in the CEG family.
Thanks, Joseph

Old old old design.
Wheezy 4.0L SOHC V-6.
Heavier than a normal Explorer, so even slower.
Vague steering the likes of which you've never experienced with your SVT.
If/when I need a family car, I'll look hard at a used Volvo V70 AWD wagon with turbo.
My $0.02. I can't really see the back seat of the Sport Trac being bigger than that of the SVT.

I agree with kerrychin, its a super old design... the 4L SOHC V6 is outdated to hell, altough powerfull, but thing is plain fugly... and the back seat isn't much bigger then a Contour, I would look elsewhere other then a sport trac.
I would test drive a GMC enjoy, or Trailblazer.... the new Inline 6 has tons of power. pretty new layout, and also very roomy. espiecally the XL.

I would agree with the volvo. I heard recently that the Sport Trac recieved the worst crash test rating amongst trucks. I believe it got 3 stars all around, and 2 starts for the rear end 5 mph test. It had like $1100 in damage!
Oh yeah... my other recomendation. If you are wanting that truck functionality with safety, power, and comfort... I would check out the Envoy XUV. We sell those at my work all the time, they are extremly roomy, comfortable, powerful, and a really cool idea. Imagine the subs you could put in the back of that thing... warm sunny day, windows down, top retracted... *bump, bump*

Toyota Highlander. VERY quick for an SUV out of a 3.0 dohc engine with vvt. The throttle response is amazing and much better than any contour, and the speed is similar to a v6 contour. Tons of room in the back seat (unlike any contour) and comes with all the little features you may or may not need. Has some great space-saving spots like under the center console being a spot where you could fit a few bags. AWD - Standard. Comparing a 1 year used Highlander to any other suv out there, this car has the most bang for your buck. Oh yeah, and you dont have to worry about any crappy sound system, this one has a good one.
Edit: Sorry I just looked up the sport trac. You're looking for an ugly truck-suv type hybrid thing. Nevermind.

I have owned and driven a Sprt Trac since 2001. Beautiful machine. Smooth steering, good acceleration, good braking. Comfortable, especially if you've got a kid, man. Good stereo, easy to detail, and looks good. I have had no problems.
Besides: who cars if it isn't fast? It is an SUV! Expect to race it? It gets up in the 80s fast and problem free. He needs to drive around a kid, not have a quick quarter mile time.
Just my opinion.

You've got a point. If ya wanted to race... buy a Cayanne Turbo.

If you really need an open bed, how about a Subaru Baja Turbo? Yes, they're ugly, but they should outhandle any other truck in it's price range.
