Went to the local Ford Dealership because i thought my fuel pump was going bad. In fact it was but in addition to that they said my whole damn Transmission need replaced! Are there any relatively inexpensive ways of replacing it or getting a hold of someone willing to part their SVT out? Any help on this matter would appreciated for I am currently strapped for cash and the quoted $3,200 is a bit steep I think. Probably due to the labor. Is there any one I can contact who will give me an honest opinion about this matter. Thanks

Honest opinion ?

Yeah, dont take the dealers opinion as fact. Especially for something like a $3200 repair. Were you experiencing transmission problems ?

Get a written report from the dealer on why the transmission 'needs replacing'. There are many things that can go wrong with the MTX. Throwing the whole damn thing out is overkill. It's not like you are going to get a better trnsmission from them, only a newer one.

I dont mean to be harsh with you but it infuriates me that dealers and repair shops throw this stuff out without explaining things.

Good luck.

I think you should get a second opinion if at all possible. Especially if you hadn't noticed your transmission acting weird before. From what I hear, dealers are just as capable of lying as everyone else. The best of luck to you my friend!

So basically you have what 99% of us with MTX issues have : dodgy synchro's. Dont speed shift the car. Its bad. Change the fluid if you haven't already. Use Mobil1 ATF + friction modifier or Redline MTL on its own. And find a new dealer.

$3200 for a new tranny will only give you the same issues again in a couple of years if you drive the same way.

Yeah well dealer prices are crazy cost $385 for new front pads/rotors, and have the back ones adjusted, that was a few years ago.

With the tranny get a second opinion, I would get about three or four.

If you went to a doctor and he said you have cancer and you should start treatment tomorrow, you would get a second opinion, have to do the same thing with a car if it big repairs.

Anyone know if the contour Transmission is the same for the SVT and the regular Contour v6 manual? I think there was a manual v6 right? I was thinking about doing some junyard searching and other places. Any suggestions? Thanks all for comments in previous post.

I got mine rebuilt from Autozone (I wouldn't normally do this, but i did work there and got quite the discount) when I had the tranny shop install it, they said how well it had been put together and that everything was new and updated. I think they cost about 1000 bucks from there and have a 1yr unlimited milage warranty. Anyway, the company that builds them for AZ is Mid-west Transmissions. They did a great job and I am very happy with it. They even used that REALLY expensive gasket sticky stuff to seal the case.
