Are the pioneer TS A6865s any good? I want better than factory sound, but I can't find that many 6x8s, and I"m no good at cutting out pieces of cars... want an easy, affordable upgrade...
are they alright?

Well, I hope so, because I just ordered two pairs of them for the front and back. Anyone know if it'll be really bad to just run these off of a head unit? It's not the factory one, I bought the car used and the previous owner had upgraded to a (relatively low-end) Pioneer HU with a power rating of "35 watts x 4." I would like an amp, but I don't want to spend too much money and I'm mainly looking to improve on the stock speaker sound, not to be set up for competitions or something (and I don't listen to rap either ;-)
Thanks!

Hey ScottG,
I know what you mean about not wanting to have a competition car. I listen to a lot of Jazz, and I don't need pee-inducing bass or anything either.
To everyone who replied -- The reason I was asking about these speakers in particular is because they're the only 6x8s available at my local future shop.
Thanks all Brian

I'm running 4 6x8 Pioneer TSA-6855 2-ways in my doors with a DEH-P3100 head unit and the entire setup sounds great! They do put out enough bass at some volumes to shake the rear-view mirror, but at lower volumes, they have very good overall sound quality.

Yea, I've got the 3-ways in all 4 doors. I have the same headunit as 4cyl. Definte power. I can shake my side mirrors, rear view mirrors, and I can feel the bass in my entire seat. I don't run an amp to em', but they do get distorted with LOW bass, or on a high volume. It handles mid-range bass best. 200 bucks, and I did the installation myself. IMO, get them. No modifications to install them, just unplug old speakers, put new ones in, put door on, BOOOM BOOOOOOOOM!! ------------------ Andy littlefishie@mail.com 97 GL T-Red W/ Pioneer 3100 HU/Pioneer 6x8s 3 Ways (All doors) SE Michigan http://pmipog.hypermart.net

Just put the Pioneer 3-ways in my svt with a DEH2100 HU. They sound pretty good. Most 5x7 speakers will fit, too. Heard some Polk 3-ways that were terrific. Whatever you do, be sure and put some foam baffles behind them to cut road noise (big difference). Crutchfield has the baffles and speaker wiring adapters. Use tape to remove the sail panel screw covers on the fronts. Enjoy!

Hey Hotshoe --
what did you mean in your previous post about using baffles to cut down "road noise". Is that the noise that people on the road hear when I play music, or the outside noises getting into the car?
If I get my speakers from crutchfield, will they include the wiring and baffles with them? If not, how much are they?

In my opinion Pioneer speakers are to bright (to tinny sounding, not enough lows) however, music is subjective to everyones taste and what they hear. The only good thing about the Pioneers is that they have the special install tabs to mount without and modifications. Crutchfield will supply the speaker wire adapters free if you buy the speakers from them.
