i have a 96 contour se mtx and wanted to know if the egr is a common porblem for the mil light to come on every so ofter for you guys. i dont remember the code that was set because i cleared the codes. but if anyone has that code handy and or if has any more infor please help!

CEL goes on and off? That's a first sign of a bad O2
sensor(s)

EGR's can cause problems, I think there's a trick involved in removing the vacuum line going to the EGR, if it stalls & stumbles then you have a problem..

BUT, I could be totally off on that. Anyone else remember that trick???

You can do a search, select troubleshooting and widen the time to a year. I searhed using, EGR vacuum, you can also search using Testing EGR

If the DPFE that's there now is aluminum, replace, most of us have chased our tails troublshooting. P0401 & P 0402.
Verify the tow hoses have not blown off. (possible cat plugging)
It's been two years since I finally replaced mine with the new Plastic body design and not one glitche since.
F77Z-9J460-AB. Oh by the way this fits 96-2000's. 95 has it own just had to reorder for my neighbors 95. different electrical connector???? Now his CEL was flashin on an off as he drove. After I cleaned out the completely plugged EGR passages behind the TB's gasket it comes on after a few minutes of driving and if he shuts it off engine and drives it again it's off then comes steady again. OBD-1?????
We'll be changing it tomorrow, he doesn't want to give the MTX back to his daughter!
It's amazing when the dealer did the Pre-cat (warranty) change 8 months ago, evidently the EGR passages must not have been clogged! Tehn they only changed bank 2?

Price has gone up on the DPFE's about $10 more since I bought mine. Now what to do with the extra one I have ? The 95's is$15 over that price.
