What size injectors were in the early 98 3.0 Duratec motors. The ones I have seen are light blue in color. How do these injectors compare to the SVT injectors for the same model year? Would these injectors be useful in an E1 with 3.0 block heads Svt cams, 24lb calibrated pro flow, and a diablo chip burnt for 24lb/hr injectors? Slap me if I have said something stupid. It is Monday.

Here's what I have had for injectors for some past projects. I also have a picture somewhere of the newer oval connector pencil style injector too, just not here at work or online anywhere...

Yes indeed that blue one is like the ones I have seen. Are these (blue) a good choice for a 3 liter swap with the above mentioned recipe? Reason I am asking is due to the fact my buddy and I built his 3 liter last winter and the damn thing idles so rough it seems as the though the wheel is going to shake out of your hands? Almost like the car is running extremely rich. When on the throttle it smooths out but will occassionaly throw a missfire code in multiple cylinders. List- 98.5 SVT, 98 block and heads with svt cams, svt lower and upper intake manifolds, svt throttle body, svt tps, superchip or diablo chip with three stages,1.)nitrous 2.)burn for 24lb injectors and mass air 3.)off ,pro-flow 75mm maf 24lb calibrated, fidanza flywheel, grizzly clutch, gutted precats with Mil eliminators, off/road y-pipe, stock cat-back, we do have a apexi afc but it is to fine of a tuner for the problem we are having.

Either the chip needs some more work, or more than likely the MAF flow curve is off if it's a fuel related issue. You really need to get the car on an OBD-II scanner to know what the car is doing for sure.

Did you send the flow map in to the chip burner? When you adjust the Apexi, are you using a scanner or wideband O2 to read the adjustments? It sounds like you've got to many things that are possibly working against each other to trim fuel. It could be way to much fuel, or not nearly enough...

Brad,

Do you know if the fuel injectors in the Ford Taurus 3.0L Duratec engine ever changed sizes?

I see in the picture above that the light blue injector was a 24lb unit and from a 1998 3.0L Duratec. Are the 1999 or 2000 3.0L engine using different sized fuel injectors?

I have some Taurus owners wanting to run a ProFlow MAF but I dont know what size their injectors are in each year to have ProFlow calibrate the meters correctly.

IIRC, the Duratec Taurus pencil style (skinny) are all the same flow rating that are roughly 24#/HR at Ford's rated rail pressure of (IIRC) 43psi.

Brad,

So the 1999-2003 3.0L Taurus Duratec engine also uses 24lb injectors?

What about the 1996-1997? I would imagine those are the same as the 1998 engine the skinny blue injectors as well. From your personal experiences of buying salvaged 3.0L engines or seeing other peoples engines, all the fuel injectors in these engines have been 24lb units?

Bnoon, I was browsing OV3N's recent pictures of the 2001 Escape motor he recently received. About the sixth picture down I noticed the fuel rail and injectors. The injectors are the pencil style cream in color. I am assuming they are 24lb injectors, but why cream? They look identical to the 17lb injectors found in 2.5 duratecs. Is Ford trying to mess with my fragile little mind? Most 2000 up injectors I have seen are pencil style with a light grey finish.

'99+, yes. '96-'97 I have never had any chance to see. Find the part numbers off of each, then research online... there are several places to find injector part numbers vs. cc flow rates. Then all you have to do is the math to convert cc to PPH if you want to. All of the 3L part numbers I have looked up have been very close to 24# units at 43psi. Many GM injectors work too, but you have to convert the flow rate from 40 psi testing pressure compared to the Ford's 43 psi rated pressure.

Color has nothing to do with flow rate. I've seen creme pencil injectors in 17#, 24#, and 36# from the same manufacturers. Look for part numbers, then search the web to find the flow rates or look through an injector parts book.
