I've decided to sell the contour unfortunately so I bring it in to the dealership to get minor problems taken care of such as the right side skirt they broke with the hoist, squeaky rear doors and a burnt out rear plate light. On my way to the dealer I hear some light ticking sound from the engine. I stop the car to listen and make sure it's from my car, and I confirm it. Mechanic at the dealer is listening to it I ask him if he knows what it is and he wasn't sure. I thought that it might be low engine oil so he tops it up still ticking, mechanic still no idea what it is, so I say to him that I'm no mechanic but it sounds like the noise is coming from the valve area, what do you think. He tells me it may be a lifter but he needs the service manager who is the SVT specialist to look at it. Next day back to the dealer I go and they tell me that they are ordering a new engine for me. I'm still in shock my car has under 43000kms I don't beat on it and now I'm worried about how long this might take because I've heard stories anywhere from 1-6 months. Says it's due to oil being low. Then I pointed out to him that many times when I come in for an oil change I'll notice light spotting where I park my car and they always tell me that the filter is loose and they tightened it or that it's normal on these cars to leak from the oil filter a little. Is this true? Anyways car is still under warranty untill October so now the next owner once I sell it will have a brand new engine. Any idea how long this might take?
