OK I finally found out what is wrong with my 2.0 zetec. The Cat is really clogged and is causing my car to run like poop.
The problem- Nobody will install an after market cat because they say even though it is made for my contour it will cause check engine light to come on and they do not want to be held responsible.

Ford wants $900.00 dollars for the part.

Is there any way to clean out this particular cat? I do not have emmisions testing here in florida. Has anyone tried this?

Recommendations?

1. www.fordpartsonline.com shows front pipe (which I assume contains cat, due to it's price) as being $606 (list $757).

2. Try a wrecker.

3. Modify (i.e. gut existing cat) and get MIL eliminators (MIL = Malfunction Indicator Light = CEL).

Lot's of plugged or gutted cats on the v6 engine equipped cars, don't recall a Zetec with the problem.

How would emissions go if I gut them? I am almost positive mine are clogged.

The fine folks here would give you the proper suggestion... run your car to proper temperature, THEN go take the test.

But with the MIL you can use any cat you want.

How many miles does she have? Might still be under warranty.

if you have autozone or advance auto parts near you go there and get a product called G2P(guaranteed 2 pass) it will clear out your cats enough to pass the test.

why would you need a MIL eliminator for the main cat? There's no sensors after the main cat on the duratec, is there one on the zetec?
