I "lurked: here for a whole and learned to buy the removal pins from WalMart to pull my stock cassette unit and then added a relatively cheap JVC CD player from Best Buy. Installed it with the Ford harness also from BB, with no problems. The plain ol' stock speakers now produce much better sound. For the brash kid at Circuit City who said without qualification, "it's all in the speakers"--- PHTTTT. Thanks to you who helped me with the advice. Pete

Re: being all about the speakers, you did move from a cassette to a CD, which will make a huge difference regardless. Try the speakers next and see what happens. Probably won't be as dramatic, but still an improvement.

Yep. I certainly agree that that good speakers would help. I just stated that the receiver/head unit also makes a difference. I have put radios/ stereos/ speakers/ amps/ equalizers into probably 30-40 cars in my past history and know that each component has its limits and contributions. This young kid in Circuit City said in a smart alec way that I was silly for changing the unit without the speakers. I'm probably one of the more "senior" of the posters here and I just wanted to share my luck with getting a CD player and improving the sound of both the receiver and getting a decent CD.
