How many miles on the car? If the dealer is claiming that it is the cat, the whole cat assy. should be warrantied out to at least 100k miles (exhaust engineer). I think they are full of it, but you never know.

He said my cat failed and this is what caused my failed emissions tests, he tried to lie to me, but he knew very well that emissions never tested my cat to begin with, they based it off of the cel codes. After I proved him wrong with a few things, he finally stopped trying to give me stupid lies to get rid of me. Almost as if he was trying to tell me that I needed new headlight fluid, lol. I wanted to look through the manual he had in his hands on this recall, but he didnt let me, he just showed me one or two pages with a few areas on it (the categories of replacement) and thanks to this site I just printed out the whole thing. Im going to highlight the parts that get replaced, which happen to be the same parts that he said dont get replaced under the recall (including the damn terminals, I caught that last night reading through the manual).

If there was something wrong with your cat, you could still probalby get the big blue oval to cover the majority of the service fix... Just need to get in touch with the customer group. It has worked for me in the past. At worst, you could report the dealer (might lose the coveted "blue oval" status if the had it). FYI anywho.

They do have it. But I dont want to remove that status from them because they are awesome. This is my first bad encounter, and it was one guy who was an a$$. Everybody else there was good, I just made the mistake of going to the wrong guy at the desk... the one who wasnt busy. figures. im going to try a few more dealerships, its a lost cause fighting them, even tho i told the bastard that i was going to be back.

The dealership I went to didn't even look under the hood, just asked me what wasn't working right and then basically said "You can pay for it to be done and then if we find anything wrong, you can get your money back."

Forget that.

I'm half-tempted to just leave it be, and if/when problems crop up that can be traced to the harness, using that as my reason to go buy a new car.

I told the dealership that did mine that I was concerned that the bare wires under the hood might short and cause a fire.

I don't know if that's what made them decide to perform the recall or not, but I bet it helped...

I know I'm dredging up an old thread, but I thought it'd be interesting to tell that at 98,000 miles, I have gotten the full 99M03 monty. And how.

My car's been at the stealership for over six weeks. I still don't have my car. In addition to the 99M03 work, I've had a replacement radiator put in (I'm paying for that), new water pump belt and lower radiator hose (my cost), a new windshield (they broke the old one), a new power steering line (they broke it), and it's taken four days so far to work out the billing for some reason. Parts deliveries added probably a solid week of time. Oh yeah, my mechanic quit before it was done, so it took the managers a few days to find someone to finish it up, and someone else blew up a gas tank elsewhere in the service bay.

I pride myself on being a patient and understanding customer, but . My only real consolation is that while it's taken forever, my mechanic (who's a CEG member) was eyeballing everything during disassembly/ reassembly and I can assume that it's all been bolted back together to proper specs. For a car with almost 100K miles on it, this is a nice bonus.

Now I just have to get it back.
