What is the difference between the Cougar and Taurus motor and interchangability with the Contour motor?

Not much difference at all since they are the same engine. Any cougar motor is easily interchangeable with a contour.

Since I have never seen a 2.5 Taurus, the true answer to this question is not so simple.
I suggest you lurk around the 3.0 forum for a while for better answers. There are a lot of variations to the Duratec family, both the 2.5 and the 3.0.

Good point!!

I didn't even see the "Taurus" part when I read it. All I saw was the Contour-Cougar part. Oh well, it was late last night. As Jim says, the Taurus is a 3L and that swap is well documented in the 3L forum.

Also don't forget that a 3.5 L Duratec is in development and should be out in a year or so. The new 500 will be getting that engine probably in the second year of production.

... although that engine is said to have a totally different block archetecture and design, etc. and most likely won't work with our cars.
