I have a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 and I'm was going to put a 2.5L Duratec in, but everyone was saying that I should put in a 3.0L if I'm going to all the trouble. I have a list of parts like motor mounts ect. that I will need but I didn't know what parts are interchangeable between the two engines. I was thinking a 3.0L block from the Taurus with a 2.5L head from SVT Contour. Will those two bolt up? Do you use the 2.5L ECU or the 3.0L ECU? Would I benifit from using the 2.5L head or just use the 3.0L head? What combination of parts from both of these motors will produce the most horsepower? I also have a concern about using the 3.0L block and about which motor mounts I would need to use, because the Contour mounts bolt up, but I don't know if the Taurus mounts will be need if I use the 3.0L block or if the Taurus mounts will bolt up for the trans ect... I know that motor mounts will have to be custom. Does the 3.0L engine use the same MTX-75 trans as the Contour 2.5L? I really don't know alot about the Duratec motor and could use any and all info about the best setup w/ most horsepower and the differences between the two motors. Also, I checked all the yards in town and none had a 2.5L SVT so I need to know where I could buy the motors.

Thanks,

I have a lot of SVT parts lying around if that is the route you want to go. I think if it was you I would stick with a straight 3.0. Leaves options down the line. The 3.0 was automatic so it never did mate to a MTX-75. Modifications need to be made that I'm sure you can find on this forum. You could also just have Buckshot build a complete 3.0 for you ready to drop in.
For engine management I would seriously try to get a hold of a 2000 contour or cougar computer and get a hold of a twEECer. You are going to have to go through getting your pats redone anyway. Then contact DemonSVT for a good base program so you can tune the car yourself. Or you can get any year V6 computer and have me burn a chip for it.

What is a twEEcer? What parts am I going to have to get redone? I think I should get a Cougar ECU because it is a two door hatchback as opposed to a 4 door. Will I get more horsepower using 2.5 and 3.0 parts or just 3.0? How much would it cost to have Buckshot build the motor? Is the DemonSVT a chip or what? How much would use charge me to burn a chip? I would really appreciate any help. BTW, I live in FL. Do you think 215hp stock is realistic? 75 to 100 shot or more?? What about the name: FoContour? j/k

Sorry, shouldn't have assumed so much. I'm guessing you are in the very beginnings of your research phase.

Buckshot runs Buckshot motorsports and is a member on this board. Has built several 3.0 in different combinations.

twEECer is a tuning device for the EEC computer. There is only the 2000 code available to date for the contour/cougars.

DemonSVT is a resident hard core CEG member. He has a lot of experience using the twEECer.

I burn SCT chips. Also know as superchips custom tuning. My programs run from 370 and up depending on the complexity and the number of programs on a chip requested.

215 has already been done on a Buckshot motor and a chip I burnt. By the way the number of doors means nothing to a computer. Manual or automatic is more of an issue.

What about the ABS and other Electronic Stability Control systems on the car?? Will they work still? Your programs run $370 and up?? 215 hp has been done by Buckshot? Will my car still be an everyday driver because I don't want a racecar. I just want to be able to spray it at the track and my friend said a 13 sec quarter would be stock motor. What do you think? Spraying it? Could it run a 12? my car only weighs 2455 pounds. How much does a Contour weigh?

You are looking at approx. 3000 lbs on a contour (this all depends on trim level and other factors) The more heavily modified 3l's are hitting low 14's in the quarter (this includes a lsd and a nice clutch amoung other things) If you had an lsd as well as a good clutch then I wouldn't be suprised by mid to high 13's. With spray I'd guess mid 13's. High 12's in my own opinion is a bit of a pipe dream with this type of setup. Traction will end up being a big issue.

Oh ya, I wouldn't make anymore 4 door's are slower comments. We might be a bit touchy on here...

We do after all drive four door cars. LOL.

You're looking at more than 3k lbs for most duratec contours. Mine weighs 3k with me in it (i'm 135) and I have a zetec and a decently less amount of weight than many other 'tours... in drag setup, it's weighs ~2700lbs, though I could go even lower if I really wanted to spend more than 5 minutes or so to get the weight down.

Wow that's nicer than what most folks call me.

If you are going to do it then I would just swap in a full 01+ Oval port 3L. Very cost effective.
A Duratec from an Escape would be prefered as you should be able to re-use the front cover. Definitely the oil pan, pickup and baffle though. That saves money not having to buy them separately.

I'd would not recommend running the small stock plastic manifolds though.

For trannies you could use any 98+ V6 MTX-75. Late 2000+ are revised.
It is usually cheaper to buy a revised tranny than to revise an older model to a revised.
The recommended upgrades are posted in the tranny forum.

wow no offence meant here but you dont seem to be up to the task of this right now.. do some research first.. and first you say you dont want a race car then you say you want to do 12s
