I just completed the intake manifold cleaning procedure as outlined in the how-to section on my 1998 Mystique V-6.

Two things.

1) It is moosing very badly.

2) One of the fuel injectors seems to be leaking gas where it plugs into the LIM.

Was I wrong not to replace the injector o-rings? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get the car back on the road this weekend.

Thanks.

Same thing happened to me about 2 years ago on a '95 Escort. I used the old O-rings putting it back together. Had to pull the injectors again. 2nd time I bought new O-rings and put them in, cursing my good fortune the whole time. They were real cheap, but only a NAPA store had them. Put a thin coat of vaseline on the rings before installing the injectors. Makes them pop in and seal up without tearing.
Sorry about your moosing problem. Can't help you there, haven't had that problem yet.

Thanks for the info. I think that Pep Boys has them. Do you recall if you replaced the o-rings at the fuel rail as well? I did not remove the injectors from the rail when I did the work.

Does anyone know if the o-rings that seal to the LIM and those that seal to the fuel rail are different?

Thanks.

I did replace them at both ends cause they were really cheap, like 20 cents each. Can't remember if they were different, but it was an Escort and they might be different injectors. Did both ends because it was a ROYAL PITA the first I pulled them and I didn't want to ever go there again.

Well...I replaced all of the injector o-rings with brand new ones. I cleaned all of the mating surfaces on the injectors, fuel rail, and LIM. Lubed them up with motor oil. Started the car up and it ran fine for about half an hour, no fuel leaks. I let it sit for about 30 minutes, then took it out for a three or four mile ride. The blasted thing has a tremendous gas smell now. I can't see a leak anywhere and I can't see any hot gas vapors, but it must be leaking somewhere.

I feel like such an idiot. I can't afford to take anymore time off to screw around with this thing. Does anyone have anything else that I can try?
