Well, I had my knew HU installed today, but I forgot to get a CD out of the factory HU before it was removed . Is there an easy way to remove the CD without doing any damage to the Deck. Any help would be great guys.

Well you could power up the deck and eject the CD. That's about the only way to get the CD out without damaging the deck.

It SHOULD be pretty easy to pop your new HU out and temporarily reconnect the old one to get the CD out. Did they give you the removal keys your new HU came with?

If not there are other ways to power the deck up, but you need a 12V source and 3 alligator clip jumpers.

I've done it both ways, power it up, or take it apart. My advice: plug it back in, and hit eject. I've had 3 years of training in electornics. You touch something with static on you, or bend something the wrong way and it's no good anymore.

Was the factory HU ever good? I would just plug it back in as well, though since my HU isn't installed great,, I'd plug it up to the battery with some connectors,, but I'd be real careful ,,,, I did a school science fair project one year, used a 12v battery to power a bunch of LEDs, it was funny when I wired a few up wrong,, amazing how much smoke poured outta the little things and the bit of flamage as well.

Don't do that unless you KNOW which wires are the remote (12V), constant (12V), and ground coming from the HU. Then all you have to do is put the 2 12Vs together on the + and ground to chassis. But, it's not safe if you're not sure. Not only will you fry it, but you'll burn it up, or even worse get that 800 or so amps flowing through you.

Thanks again for the great advice guys. I love the story about smoking LED's. The install guys didn't give me the clips to remove the new unit, but I will take a look at it & see if I can remove it without too much damage . I guess at worst I can go to stereo shop & have them do it for me. I was hoping there was a trick way to do it without a power source, but I guess not. Thanks fellas.

By the time u pay someone to tinker around with it...y not just buy another cd....unless its no longer available...seems like the quickest option to me...just my .02

If it's worth the $10, you could get an autozone adapter harness, see which pins are the red and yellow on that, put those to the 12v and put the black to ground (on the real pins on the back of the hu). Could even mark that down in the store.... just a thought.

I wouldn't use a car battery to power the head unit. Something like two 6V lantern batteries in series would provide plenty of power without the risk of an 800-amp meltdown if they get shorted.

i got a relevant question:

Im thinking of putting my old Blaupunkt HU into a bar that im gonna build this summer. Is there any way i can wire the HU to plug into an outlet in the wall?

I found an old phone charger which said 12V output on the back, I cut the two wires, and connected the 2 12V hookups from the HU into one, then the ground into the other. This didnt work, i was waiting to see smoke or sparks or sumthin, but i got nothing. Is this even possible?
