how do i get the shift knob off to take out the center console, i already removed the screw right below the O/D button, but it doesnt seem any looser,

thanks

Snapped the wire.....but I relocated the O/D button anyway.

True, but I put a new shifter on (with O/D button),, electrical tape is your friend.

Get a nice shift handle with the O/D button on it like Kremi and I. Much easier

What I did was easy....just lengthened the O/D buttons and put the button in the tray (pre98 console) and used a nice SMALL shifter....I didn't like the HUGE shifter for the Cougar/Contour.
