About 3000 miles ago I switched to castrol synthetic blend oil. What I'm wondering is, how often should I change my oil now?

For all of your oil & filter questions see this site. It's the CEG equivilant for oil related issues.

I've got a question. Most of the guys around the office tell me not to switch to the synthetic stuff. My csvt has 80k on it. Thier reasoning is that it will find leaks that the regular/blended stuff normally fills. Being that I work in an engineering office of one of the big 3, i'm inclined to believe them. Anyone ever switched over after 75k, and noticed any of this?

I've got 101,xxx on my 98 CSVT and have used mobil 1 Synthetic since I bought the car... up until recently. Started to notice that I have a small oil leak at the oil pan gasket (common )(like, extremly minute, oil doesn't make it off the car and onto the ground). Went to Mobil 1 drive clean synthetic blend, and the leak has gone away... I belive synthetic is still the best to use, but until the leak gets worse, I'll "block it up" with some synthetic blend for awhile.

3k-5k depending on your driving habits. Being the cheapest synth
blend oil here I wouldn't expect wonders. I've been using this
oil for quite a while with 3-5k intervals and I'm happy with it. It's nice
and clean when it comes out and there's still
no oil consumption at 165k (I have a Zetec). I do change it
regularly though - I plan on keeping the car as long as possible
and $10.92 / 5qt will not bankrupt me.

I'd leave it in there for 5K unless you do ALOT of city driving and if you do that, change it at 3K. Just my opinion here, but Castrol isn't the best oil out there. I'd go with either Mobil 1 or Valvoline Synthetic and leave it in there for about 7,500K or more, depending again on how/where you drive. Don't forget to spend a couple extra dollars on the synthetic filter, only the best for your baby

mobil 1 and motorcraft filter every 3K for me

the 3L still isnt ready for mobil 1, once i hit 2K im switching to mobil 1 (currently at 1800)

i buy a motorcraft filter because i change my oil so often and K&N is too expensive

i change my oil so much cause i beat the sh!t out of my car and race it alot (every week in the summer when the tracks open)
