Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew what Ford recommends for the service interval of the mtx transmission fluid.

I've looked in my 'Scheduled Maintenace Guide' and can find no mention of it.

I have a 2000 Sport SE w/ 2.5L V6 and 5 Speed.

according to Ford the fluid never needs to be changed. However many people here on the site disagree and there have been discussions on an acceptable change interval.

Here's a link to the How-To on this site.

I've been quoted every 36k miles by a CEG'er who's wisdom I trust. My SVT just rolled over 37k when I put it away for storage. The first thing I'm doing when I pull it out is to change the fluid in the MTX.

For what it is worth... The Haynes manual states 60K for MTX fluid changes.

If you plan to run the (thinner) ATF:

Regular ATF every year! I do not care what the manual states. It does not last long at all in an MTX. IMO a significant reason for all the syncro failures is runing burned up fluid following Ford's "recommendations".

Synthetic ATF - every 2 years or 30k (My Mobil 1 with FM was "thrashed" after 2 years and maybe 25k)

Manual gear oil:

Ford Honey or Redline about every 3 years or 45k. (I changed my MTL after ~13k - had tranny out - and it looked brand new)

Now my miles are harder then most.

With a rebuilt engine (MTX) how soon would you change?

I switched mine over to Mobil 1 ATF at 6K. Then I changed it again at 26K and again at 45K, but that time I added the friction modifier to it. I know this is excessive, but thats just the way I am. It takes (3) quarts of ATF, which when using Mobil 1 ATF, costs about $15.00, plus the additonal $10.00 my buddy charges me to change it out. Cheap preventative maintaince
