Just wonderin but how much mileage can you expect out of a Duratec. I mean I know if maintenance is maintained and such you get a lot more miles but what's an average? Cause my car has 112,000 on it right now and there have been a few probs w/ the engine lately. And also, has anyone had an alternator go out on it? Mine went out about 6 months ago, I thought it was kinda odd because I had a thunderbird before that w/ 153000 and the alternator was stock and runnin smooth. But I was just curious cause i need this car to at least last me 3 more years.

Well there is one guy on the boards that has 261,xxx miles on his duratec, so with rutine maintience that is achievable with out any major engine work. The duratec has proven to be a pretty relaiable powerplant if everything is kept up to par. As far as the alternator goes, my buddy has a 98 myst duratec and his alternator went @ 67,xxx. I'm not sure if this is a known issue or not, but I don't read many posts about alternators and tours.

Yea.. I'm worried cause I just got mine replaced and a while back my battery light flickered while I had the car idling and it hasn't done it in a while but my CEL spit out some electrical codes the other day. I think it's my battery though, it needs replacing.

I think the engine can last a while Currently at 124,000 miles on mine. My parents had a 95 at 160,000 before my brother totaled it (the engine still ran but the rest of the car did not run so well after that)

I had to get my alternator replaced last fall. I hope my car can last me another 3 years also (at my current mileage rates that would put me somewhere a little over 200,000 miles total)

I've got 96K on mine...got it at about 70K. I've had the alternator done in the past six months, and been through two IACs and intake manifold gasket sets in that time (it sounds like Ford let a bad run of these out, because when the second replacement happened, there were no sets at all in the region). But routine and/or proactive maintenance does plenty of good for the car.

Alternators have been problematic in the Contiques based on what I have seen on these boards. The aftermarket replacements don't have a stellar track record either. I've read about many that fail regularly, so get one with a lifetime warranty if you should ever need another.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

first blew a valve or soemthing at 110k, i got one with 45k that had sat for a year or two, that one had a bearing spin and blew itself up 10k later. just got a 53k engine, we'll see how this one goes. note: i drive pretty hard, but no stupid stuff (powershifting, bouncing it off the rev limiter...) and keep up on maint.

Duratec - 109K (tranny was changed at 82K)

I get about 28mpg on average...
Oh wait...

There are plenty of maintenance jobs that are good to do for the ol' Duratec. Check the "Duratec Maintenance" posts for some ideas. Plugs, wires, etc aren't a large investment that often bring smoothness back to the engine. Treat her nice, and she'll be nice back.
